In this article, a perspective is proposed for the consideration of the articulation between techniques and values from the pragmatist point of view. Techniques and values are understood as strategies for the resolution o f problems in which the axiological and the technical are co-implicated. Techniques without values do not exist, but there is no value without technique. The idea of an opposition between both comes from the ideology and use of inadequate or insufficient philosophical resources.

The relationship between art and technique (and therefore, the very
concept of art, esthetic perccption and forms of artistic creation) has been
greatly modified with the d evelopment of inforrnation technologies and
communication. Electronic technology <loes not consist of physical operations
anymore, but rather cognitive and epistemological ones. Because of this, they
are not merely instrumental prolongations of the body, rather they create a
new reality. For this reason, art, in the electronic era, is constructed on the
hase of a new concept of the difference between the irnagination and reason;
hetwcen fiction and reality; between the artificial and the natural; and finally,
between virtuality and reality.

This paper attempts to clarify the significance of the word 'values'
to the contemporary philosophy of science. To achieve this, the classical
concept of value (singular) is distinguished from the today's concept of values
(plural). For it is assumed that the concept of values is a recen! one, different
from the classical problem of the economists, and derived from the appraisal
of new needs. Such a difference can be clearly seen through the verbs that
are used with each of the two concepts: 'to have' in the case of 'value ', 'to
be' in the case of 'values'. The author sh ows the many problems that arise
from considering values as entities and propases to recover the old use of
values with 'to have'. This new •possessive perspective- induces sorne changes
in the way we should focus philosophy of science.

This article propases an ontological approach, inspired by Fregeian
axiology. From the proposal of Frege, the notion of the axiological function
is introduced and the notion of value is reelaborated.
Value is not an intrinsic property of the object or an eslimative projection of
the subject towards the object. Value is the result of the action of evaluating,
that is, the result of completing functions with arguments, of applying an
axiological function to an axiological variable.
