Se revisan las ideas y planteamientos expresados en los primeros años de la década de 1820 por intelectuales, periodistas y hombres públicos, quienes emplearon la prensa periódica, folletos y panfletos políticos para destacar en el debate público la necesidad de poder fin a la guerra civil y lograr la urgente pacificación de América. Se parte de la hipótesis de que el vigoroso debate en la esfera pública hispanoamericana sobre la independencia y sus soluciones permitió mantener la opción pacifista como una posibilidad real y plausible, a pesar de que las tendencias dominantes favorecían la opción militarista para abordar las discrepancias americanas.The objective of this text is to analyze the debate that occurred in the periodical press and in print in Spain and America about the Spanish-American independence and its possible peaceful and negotiated solutions. The ideas and approaches expressed in the early years of the 1820’s by intellectuals, journalists and public men are reviewed, who used the periodical press, pamphlets and political pamphlets to highlight in the public debate the need to end the civil war and achieve the urgent pacification of America.
