El despótico protagonista, todopoderoso creador de redes de intriga y terror con las que somete a los ciudadanos, manipula las leyes de la casualidad y la causalidad a su capricho. El estudio hace hincapié en la configuración del autócrata como encarnación simultánea de la Providencia cristiana y de Tohil, dios del fuego y de la lluvia maya. A pesar de este retrato divinizado, en última instancia, Asturias resquebraja su poder ilimitado mediante el uso de lo grotesco.This article focuses on the narrative procedures which Miguel Ángel Asturias uses to build the mythological and all-encompassing figure of a dictator in his novel El señor Presidente (1946). The despotic protagonist, powerful creator of terror and intrigues to submit the citizens, manipulates the laws of chance and causality at will. This analysis highlights the configuration of the autocrat as a simultaneous embodiment of the Christian Providence and the Mayan Tohil, god of fire and rain.
