No logró implantar la reformación que tanto deseaba, pero si encontró el apoyo espiritual del eremita Gregorio López, quien le alentó a regresar a España e implantar la descalcez. A su vuelta, trajo consigo un arca cuyos objetos no eran más que una declaración de intenciones para fundar la recolección mercedaria. Estos objetos se plasmarán en el arte para crear una iconografía de este personaje, tal y como se deduce de las manifestaciones artísticas de fray Juan del Santísimo que poco a poco están saliendo a la luz a partir de las nuevas investigaciones.This proposal presents the figure of Fray Juan Bautista del Santísimo Sacramento, reformer of the Order of Mercy, who before embarking on the mismatch of the order in Spain, embarked on the new world to achieve this mission. He failed to implement the reform he wanted so much, but he did find the spiritual support of the Eremita Gregorio López, who encouraged him to return to Spain and implant the barefoot. Upon his return, he brought with him an ark whose objects were nothing more than a declaration of intent to found the mercedarian collection.
