Se trata de una industria que desde tiempos antiguos ha modificado el paisaje para su utilización por el hombre como medio de sustento. También ha influido en él con la creación de diferentes estructuras y edificaciones que han cambiado el paisaje, siendo el caso de las casas salineras, las cuales aparecen como hitos singulares dentro de un territorio prácticamente plano. En este trabajo hacemos un repaso por la historia de esta industria en la Bahía de Cádiz, centrándonos más profundamente en San Fernando. Analizamos la situación en la que se encuentran actualmente las salinas y las casas salineras de este municipio, así como los planes tanto públicos como privados que hay para recuperarlas o que afecten de alguna forma a su situación actual. También indagamos en que es y cómo funcionan las salinas y las casas salineras, catalogándolas y realizando una propuesta de actuación sobre una de ellas con el objetivo de servir como punto de partida de futuras intervenciones en el resto. Para ello, el plan de actuación mediante la rehabilitación que realizamos de las mismas nos permite otorgarles un uso que complemente las actividades que se realizan en la zona, permita conservarlas y sirva como soporte para que los ciudadanos realicen diferentes actividades culturales, sociales y económicas.One of the biggest industrial legacies in the bay of Cadiz, besides the shipbuilding and military industries, is the salt industry, so characteristic in this area. It constitutes an industry that since ancient times has modified the landscape for human’s use as a means of livelihood. It has also been influenced by the creation of different structures and buildings, as the salt houses, which appeared as significant landmarks in an essentially flat territory. In this assignment, a review through the history of this typical industry from the bay of Cadiz is made, focusing mainly in San Fernando. We analyse the current situation of the salt mines and the salt houses from this town, as well as the existent programmes, both public and private, aiming to bring them back or to affect them in some way. We also explore what the salt mines and the salt houses are and how they work, categorizing and executing an action proposal over one of them, that will be used as a starting point for future interventions over the others.
