This research aims to study the relationships formed by some Roman women with their own freedmen. These unions suffered great social and legal marginalization and were highly criticized in written sources. The case of the relationship of Claudia Ilias, the patrona et coniux of Ti. Claudius Hermes (CIL VI, 15106) will be analyzed throughout these pages.
