El presente artículo, a partir de la consulta de fuentes documentales aún poco explotadas, en particular las actas capitulares de los cabildos eclesiástico y civil de Cádiz, reconstruye el proceso que condujo a seleccionar las trazas del arquitecto montañés para el nuevo templo catedralicio, a su nombramiento como maestro mayor y posterior cese. La lectura conjunta de los datos que ya se conocían con los que ahora se aportan permite situar esos hechos bajo una nueva luz.There are still many unresolved issues in relation to the first years of the construction of Cádiz Cathedral, especially regarding the appointment of Vicente Acero who was responsible for the project and its direction. This paper, based on documentary sources still little used —in particular the chapter acts of the ecclesiastical and civil councils of Cádiz— reconstructs the process that led to the selection of Acero’s design for the new Cathedral, to his appointment as project manager and subsequent dismissal.
