Universidad de Sevilla, Sevilla.https://hdl.handle.net/11441/168507The undeniable urban growth in our cities has generated new necessities in the search for a balance between nature and human constructions, this binding relationship seeks the sustainability, functionality, and integration of ecologically important areas, considering coherent territorial planning. The most relevant ecological areas in the city’s structures are the urban rivers, fundamental natural elements closely linked to cities and their development. Elements that have been pushed to the edges of cities due to urban expansion and, as a result, have suffered from abandonment and deterioration of their context. Different cities have focused their efforts and policies on reconnecting and integrating their urban rivers, recovering the natural value as well as the ecological and social function of rivers over the territory. The present investigation has as its purpose to acknowledge and characterize the current state of the Pasto River, in order to propose different strategies for urban regrowth, that allow the consolidation of the ecological corridor as a structural axe of the territory and the most important and visible environmental element of the city.El innegable crecimiento urbano de las ciudades ha generado nuevas necesidades en función de la búsqueda de equilibrio entre lo urbano y lo natural, esta relación vinculante busca la sostenibilidad, funcionalidad e integración de los espacios de importancia ecológica, en consideración de la coherente planificación territorial. Los espacios de importancia ecológica más relevantes en la estructura de la ciudad son los ríos urbanos, elementos naturales fundamentales y estrechamente ligados a las ciudades y su desarrollo. Elementos que han sido relegados a los bordes de las ciudades por la acción de la expansión urbana y en consecuencia han sufrido el abandono y deterioro de su contexto.
