Lo que para unos es un Movimiento de Liberación Nacional que ha permitido que el pueblo judío tenga un estado donde desarrollarse, para otros es un elemento racista que favorece la discriminación de otros pueblos que viven en la región y que no han tenido la opción de desarrollar un estado. En todo caso, los defensores de ambos planteamientos consideran que el sionismo es una ideología creada y defendida por judíos que ha sido clave para el establecimiento y supervivencia del Estado de Israel. Sin embargo, sesenta años antes de que Theodor Herzl escribiera el libro “El Estado Judío” ya existían importantes líderes cristianos que defendían la necesidad teológica de que los judíos volvieran a Palestina y que allí crearan un estado. Esta realidad, de nombre sionismo cristiano, es bastante desconocida y de no haber existido hoy no estaríamos hablando de Estado de Israel. Por ello, este trabajo tratará de descifrar en que consiste el sionismo cristiano y en qué medida ha contribuido a la creación y supervivencia del actual Estado de Israel. Para ello, se usará un método comparado destacando cuatro casos (la emigración, la creación del estado, el apoyo en momentos complicados y la capitalidad de Israel) en los que se buscará mostrar la importancia del sionismo cristianoZionism is a controversial ideology. For some, it is a National Liberation Movement that has allowed the Jewish people to have a state in which to develop; for others, it is a racist element that favours discrimination against other people living in the region who have not had the option of developing a state. In any case, proponents of both approaches see Zionism as an ideology created and defended by Jews that has been key to the establishment and survival of the state of Israel. However, sixty years before Theodor Herzl wrote the book ‘The Jewish State’, there were already critical Christian leaders who defended the theological need for Jews to return to Palestine and create a state there. This reality called Christian Zionism is relatively unknown, and if it had not existed, we would not be talking about the State of Israel today. Therefore, this paper will try to decipher what Christian Zionism consists of and to what extent it has contributed to the creation and survival of the current state of Israel.
