A pesar de ello sigue existiendo pacientes geriátricos edéntulos y estos actualmente prefieren tratamientos con implantes dentales en la mandíbula frente a las prótesis convencionales, especialmente sobredentaduras, logrando mayor comodidad y estabilidad. Sin embargo, los tiempos de carga convencionales son más lentos y retrasan el uso de las prótesis, lo que es un inconveniente para los pacientes. Por lo tanto, cada vez se prefiere más la carga inmediata de los implantes, ya que ofrece ventajas para el paciente. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo principal realizar una búsqueda bibliográfica sobre las sobredentaduras mandibulares con carga inmediata, y como objetivos secundarios, evaluar la pérdida de hueso marginal, la mejora en la calidad de vida y la salud oral de los pacientes, la influencia de la técnica quirúrgica y el número de implantes en la salud oral con protocolos de carga inmediata. Concluyendo la carga inmediata en sobredentaduras mandibulares es un tratamiento confiable y exitoso a largo plazo, con una pérdida de hueso marginal clínicamente aceptable. Tanto la carga inmediata como la carga convencional tienen un impacto similar en el rendimiento masticatorio y la fuerza oclusal máxima. La relación entre el tratamiento con sobredentaduras mandibulares y la mejora de la calidad de vida de los pacientes edéntulos totales es evidente. No obstante, muchos autores recomiendan la realización de más estudios con una muestra de pacientes mayor y durante periodos de tiempo más largos.Nowadays more and more patients are aging with all their teeth in their mouths due to better oral health care and knowledge. Despite of this, there are still edentulous geriatric patients and they currently prefer dental implant treatments in the jaw as opposed to conventional prostheses, especially overdentures because this way they achieve greater comfort and stability. Nevertheless, conventional loading times are slower and delay the use of the prostheses, which is an inconvenient for patients. Therefore, immediate loading of implants is increasingly being preferred, as it offers more advantages for the patient. The main objective of this work is to carry out a bibliographic search on the mandibular overdentures with immediate loading. Secondary targets are to evaluate the loss of marginal bone, the improvement in the quality of life and oral health of the patients, the influence of surgical technique and the number of implants on oral health with immediate loading protocols. In conclusion, immediate loading in mandibular overdentures is a reliable and successful long-term treatment which has a clinically acceptable marginal bone loss. Both immediate loading and conventional loading have a similar impact on masticatory performance and on maximal occlusal force. The relationship between mandibular overdenture treatment and improved quality of life of total edentulous patients is evident.
