Este virus tiene especial tropismo por los tejidos con altos niveles de expresión de ACE-2, entre los cuales se encuentra la cavidad oral. Este hecho hace que la cavidad oral se considere una vía de latencia y transmisión del virus y, por tanto, se den manifestaciones a nivel oral. Material y método El material científico se obtuvo de las bases de datos PUBMED y MEDLINE, ofrecidas por el portal web de la Biblioteca de Centros de la Salud de la Universidad de Sevilla. Se localizaron los artículos publicados entre 2020 y 2021, de los cuales finalmente 14 fueron analizados. Resultados y conclusión Muchas de las manifestaciones orales causadas por la COVID-19 pueden ser el primer y único signo de la enfermedad. Es por esto que el papel del dentista en la identificación de las lesiones es primordial para un mayor control de la expansión de la enfermedad.Introduction COVID-19 disease is an infectious disease caused by a recently discovered type of coronavirus. This virus has special tropism for tissues that express high levels of ACE-2, among which is the oral cavity. Due to this fact, the oral cavity is considered a route of viral latency and transmission and, therefore, manifestations occur at the oral cavity. Method The scientific material was obtained from the PubMed and MEDLINE databases, offered by the web portal of the Library of Health Centers of the University of Seville. Articles published from 2020 to 2021 were located. Fourteen articles were analyzed. Conclusion Many of the oral manifestations caused by COVID-19 may be the first and only sign of the disease.
