Intentamos también descubrir hasta qué punto la independencia su-pone una ruptura total con las fiestas barrocas, o si hay continuidades. Analizamos las celebraciones organizadas en esta época, en base a numerosa documentación inédita de archivos quiteños, desde el enfoque de la historia social del arte. Interesan especialmente los discursos que se proyectan a través de los elementos efímeros –lamentablemente no conservados–.After the independence victory in the Battle of Pichincha (1822) and until 1830, when Ecuador separated from Gran Colombia, numerous festivities were held in Quito, the objective of our study. We also try to discover to what extent independence supposes a total break with the baroque festivals, or if there are continuities. We analyze the celebrations organized at this time, based on numerous unpublished documentation from Quito archives, from the perspective of the social history of art.
