Sin embargo, durante su reinado y en la historiografía inmediatamente posterior a su muerte, la visión literaria era mucho más benévola con su figura. En el presente artículo analizaremos los pocos pasos conservados en Eusebio de Cesarea de las Ἐπιστολαὶ ἑορταστικαί de Dionisio de Alejandría. Estudiaremos de qué manera Dionisio representa al emperador Galieno y cómo esta imagen puede ligarse a su autorrepresentación como promotor de los cultos solares.The traditional view that has been transmitted in historiography about Emperor Publius Licinius Gallienus (253-268) is strongly conditioned by the negative image promoted by the senatorial elites of the 4th century. However, during his reign and in the historiography immediately following his death, the literary vision was much more benevolent towards his figure.
