Universidad de Sevilla, Sevilla.https://hdl.handle.net/11441/174256Mediation in the context of domestic violence is a topic which is highly debatable among scholars. Raines and Indovina (2020) argue that mediation is highly beneficial even to victims who might have experienced severe forms of domestic violence. In many societies, victims and couples rely on informal third parties to help and mediate. Such is the situation in Nigeria. This thesis focuses on the role of such third parties, in particular religious leaders such as priests and nuns, in cases of domestic violence. This role is hardly studied so far. Therefore we explore the perspectives of the informal mediators, priests and nuns, as well as expectations and evaluations of victims and perpetrators. The central hypothesis is, that these expectations, behaviors, and evaluations are strongly driven by societal culture, particularly norms of patriarchism.application/pdf243 p.engAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/Mediation by religious Leaders in domestic Violence in Nigeriainfo:eu-repo/semantics/doctoralThesisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess
