De añadidura, se fueron incorporando al repertorio iconográfico de la autora retratos que no la repre-sentan y que insistían en esa estampa mohína y avejentada. Por el contrario, los retratos auténticos de la Cecilia joven cuentan con mucho menor recorrido y difusión, lo que ha contribuido a sellar una interpretación de su obra que ignoraba la extraordinaria moder-nidad de su narrativa. Este trabajo examina el «miedo de ser conocida» que tantas veces expresó en sus cartas incorporando el estudio de sus retratos. Sumando los ejemplos pictóricos al análisis de su obsesión por el incógnito, se descubren rasgos inéditos del imaginario autorial que Cecilia Böhl construyó a través de su identidad literaria.After the death of Fernán Caballero in 1877, the portraits that accompanied the editions of her writings popularized the image of a somber elderly woman.Additionally, portraits that did not represent her and that insisted on this sullen and aged image were added to her iconographic repertoire.On the contrary, the authentic portraits of the young Cecilia, which correspond to the modern and experimental author of her best years, have had much lessreach and diffusion, contributing to cement an interpretation of her work that ignored the extraordinary modernity of her narrative.The article explores the «fear of being known» expressed in her letters, incorporating the examination of her portraits.
