Philologia Hispalensis, 39 (1), 233-254. https://doi.org/10.12795/PH.2025.v39.i01.09.1132-02652253-8321https://hdl.handle.net/11441/174514Este trabajo tiene como objetivo trazar el recorrido histórico del ejemplo de Nebrija el asno de Sancho para verificar i) si ha estado vivo en la tradición ejemplificativa del español de forma constante o intermitente, ii) si ha sufrido modificaciones a lo largo de su uso, iii) si ha habido otros ejemplos que hayan podido «competir» por la prototipicidad ejemplificativa del tipo de construcción al que aluden y, si procede, iv) explicar las causas de los vaivenes de su recorrido histórico. Para ello he partido del trabajo historiográfico de García-Page (1994) sobre la construcción, he recopilado los ejemplos sobre el fenómeno en un número mayor de gramáticas anteriores al siglo xx que las mencionadas por García-Page y, además, los de gramáticas y trabajos lingüísticos de la década de 1990 y del siglo xxi. La ausencia de dicho ejemplo en todo el siglo xix y en la primera mitad del xx revela que fue olvidado en la tradición gramatical española y que su recuperación se vincula a los estudios de carácter histórico e historiográfico del siglo xx y su prototipificación, a trabajos gramaticales recientes.The objective of this paper is to trace the historical trajectory of Nebrija’s example el asno de Sancho in order to verify i) whether it has been alive in the exemplifying tradition of Spanish in a constant or intermittent way, ii) whether it has undergone modifications throughout its use or iii) whether there have been other examples that have or could have “competed” for the exemplifying prototypicality of the type of construction to which they allude and, if appropriate, iv) to explain the causes of the ups and downs of its historical trajectory. To this end, I have taken as my starting point García-Page’s historiographical work on the construction (1994), I have compiled the examples of the phenomenon in a larger number of grammars prior to the 20th century than those studied by García- Page and, in addition, those of grammars and linguistic works from the 1990s and the 21st century.
