Applied and Environmental Microbiology, 51 (1), 214-216.0099-2240http://hdl.handle.net/11441/62053Some species of extremely halophilic archaebacteria, Halobacteriaceae, have been shown to accumulate large amounts of poly(P-hydroxybutyrate) under conditions of nitrogen limitation and abundant carbon source. The production of poly(P3-hydroxybutyrate), at least in large quantities, was restricted to two carbohydrate-utilizing species, Halobacterium mediterranei and H. volcanii. In addition to the nutrients in the media, the salt concentration also influenced poly(P-hydroxybutyrate) accumulation, which was greater at lower salt concentrations. The possible application of these microorganisms for the production of biodegradable plastics is discussed.application/pdfengAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internacionalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/HalobacteriumPoly(beta hydroxybutyric acid)Accumulation of Poly(beta-Hydroxybutyrate) by Halobacteriainfo:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess
