Through a historical-prosopographic methodology, this study aims to establish the biography of the bishops of Merida attested from the reign of Constantine I to the arrival of the Germanic peoples in the Iberian Peninsula: Liberius, Florentius, Hydatius, Patruinus and Gregory. Properly contextualized, fixed and dated, their known actions highlight the preeminence reached by the Emeritan ecclesiastical see. This preeminence is reflected by its participation in various political-religious conjunctures that took place during this period and were addressed by relevant ecclesiastical councils held in the diocesis Hispaniarum or beyond.application/pdf20spaAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internacionalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/MéridaobisposbiografíaconciliosprimacíabishopsbiographycouncilsprimacyLos obispos emeritenses del Imperio romano cristianoThe emeritan bishops of the christian Roman Empireinfo:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess10.12795/Habis.2020.i51.13
