No presente artigo expõem-se algumas das características das famílias do bairro e uma metodologia que tem vindo a ser utilizada desde 2010 no trabalho com as crianças e jovens: o teatro do oprimido. Assim, reflete-se sobre os efeitos dessa abordagem num grupo de jovens, expondo o que poderá trazer de novo para os seus residentes, nomeadamente se a atividade for alargada a toda a família, no sentido de colmatar a desunião entre as famílias e o pouco sentido de comunidade.Horta da Areia was an emergency quarter built in Faro to receive Portuguese people forced to return from portuguese colonies in Africa. It prevails until nowadays with evident problems of security, sanity, poverty and social exclusion. The present article exposes some of the main characteristics of the families from the neighborhood. It shows as well a methodology that has been used since 2010 in the social intervention with children and youth: theatre of the oppressed.
