Reflexiones en torno a la diferencia esencial entre animales y humanos: ¿un problema constitutivo de la antropología filosófica?

Abstract

Se pretende articular distintos planteamientos filosóficos, que se hacen cargo de las diferencias cualitativas entre humanos y animales, fundando, de arriba abajo, los paradigmas simbólicos (Cassirer), intersubjetivo (Torodov) y espiritual (Scheler). Tal intento se apoyará en la perspectiva integradora de Zubiri. Se analizan, además, los peligros que conlleva la insistencia en definir lo humano por contraposición a lo animal: la tendencia al dualismo entre lo biológico y lo cultural, y a acabar rompiendo la diferencia entre la esencia físico-biológica y la metafísico-trascendental.

It is the aim of this paper to articulate different philosophical views that take into account the qualitative differences between humans and animals. To this purpose I integrate Cassirer’s symbolic paradigm, Todorov’s intersubjective one, and the spiritual paradigm of Scheler’s basing (top-down) each one on the other. Zubiri’s all-arching (integrative) perspective should serve as a basis for such an attempt. The paper will further analyze the dangers that threat the persistent attempt to define ‘the human’ by contrast to ‘the animal’: the tendency to draw a dualism between the biological and the cultural, and to end up breaking the difference between psychobiological considerations and transcendental metaphysical ones.
