La inmigración como problema. Percepciones sociales y representaciones mediáticas

Abstract

En las sociedades modernas los medios de comunicación tienen un papel determinante en la construcción social de la realidad. La representación negativa que los medios españoles hacen de la inmigración influye decididamente en la percepción de ésta como un problema para la sociedad. En este discurso prácticamente no tienen cabida el aporte cultural y económico del fenómeno; aunque a veces sí manifiestan explícitamente su rechazo al racismo y la discriminación, esta postura resulta insuficiente ante una avalancha de sucesos predominantemente conflictivos. Se intentará ejemplificar lo dicho a través del análisis de relatos periodísticos de diarios como ABC y El País. Finalmente, este trabajo pretende ser una reflexión sobre el papel de los medios como factores claves para la cohesión social.

In modern societies, the media have a role in the social construction of reality. The negative representation of the Spanish media that make immigration, strongly influences the perception of it as a problem. In this speech, have practically no fitted for the cultural and economic contribution of the phenomenon, although sometimes it does specify their rejection of racism and discrimination, is insufficient to predominantly an avalanche of conflicting events. Try to illustrate what is said through the analysis of journalistic accounts from newspapers such as ABC and El País.
