This Master’s Final Project arises from the growing problem of greenhouse gases (GHG’s), such as carbon dioxide and methane, which cause global warming and most of the natural disasters observed today, such as months of drought and, subsequently, floods that cause the collapse of cities, as well as the difficulty of producing basic foodstuffs for the sustenance of the current population. This work aims to study a dry methane reforming plant, a mechanism that consumes methane and carbon dioxide to produce syngas, the most demanded intermediate product in industry. To this end, we propose the simulation of a plant to produce syngas from biogas, a product obtained from the anaerobic digestion of organic matter, with dry reforming of methane and supported by steam reforming of carbon monoxide. Among the options considered in this work, the modelling is based on the emerging technology of ceramic and metallic monolithic microreactors. This type of reactor allows conventional reactions to be conducted in smaller spaces, avoiding the need to invest in bulky equipment and saving land costs. Similarly, an energy integrated plant scheme is designed to avoid the consumption of auxiliary currents using simulation tools such as Aspen Plus® and different operating temperature scenarios and configurations are proposed to determine the one in which the best production is obtained, by studying the behaviour of each scenario. The objective is to carry out a complete techno-economic analysis of the plant, validating the chosen method by means of experimental and bibliographic data. The aim is also to determine the economic profitability of the plant and its possible scaling to achieve industrial production, considering the different scenarios simulated and analysed, choosing for scaling the configuration that provides the greatest economic benefits and/or the lowest costs of auxiliary equipment and services. |
