dc.description.abstract | The present work aims to study and develop a method to measure the displacement of objects and determine their position. The proposed method consists of measuring the acceleration of an object, using a 3-axis accelerometer as a sensor, and applying a process to these data that allows obtaining the distance travelled. Once the displacement is obtained, knowing the initial position, the final position can be determined with relative ease. To make the system, a hardware design is developed in VHDL that is implemented on an FPGA.
It is based on the hypothesis that the data obtained by the accelerometer will have sufficient quality to obtain good results once the processing has been carried out. Therefore, the first thing will be to test the hypothesis.
To do this, a preliminary study is carried out, developing, firstly, a first hardware version of the first stage of the system that is responsible for data acquisition, and secondly, a first software version of the second stage of the system that is deals with data processing. After analysing the data of several measurements, at the output of the first stage and at the output of the second, it is concluded that the hypothesis is fulfilled, even if certain operating conditions are respected.
Once the hypothesis has been validated, the final hardware versions of the first two stages are designed. Next, the third stage of the system is developed that allows the distance travelled to be displayed using a 7-segment display. After combining the three stages, a final version of the system is achieved that works as long as the restrictions are met. Finally, three applications for the system are developed and their operation is checked. | es |
