Homological Groups, Spanning Forests and Membrane Computing
(Universidad de Sevilla, 2011) Berciano Alcaraz, Ainhoa; Díaz Pernil, Daniel; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Matemática Aplicada I
In this paper we present a new way to determine the geometrical objects associated to the Homology groups of a 2D-digital binary image. In fact, using Membrane Computing with techniques of spanning forests, we are able to define a parallel algorithm which calculates not only the Betti numbers, but also the geometric objects which generate these holes.

Algebraic tools in geometrical modeling with topological control
(Universidad de Sevilla, 2011) Pacheco Martínez, Ana María; Real Jurado, Pedro; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Matemática Aplicada I
In this paper we show a method to create a look-up table with all the possible bricks which can made up an object. Moreover, we generate a procedure to recreate any object starting from this table. More concretely, the procedure is divided into two stages: (1) choosing the bricks of the table which made up the given object; and (2) merging these bricks to recreate the object.

Some Considerations about Geometric Algebras in relation with Visibility in Computer Graphics
(Universidad de Sevilla, 2011) Tenorio Villalón, Ángel Francisco; Avenau, Lilian
We give some considerations about the use of geometric algebras in the context of visibility, showing some advantages and disadvantages for their use as the underlying framework. We emphasize the use of conformal geometric algebra since, among other reasons, it allows us to study easily the visibility for flat varieties and, due to the same algebraic expression of hyper-spheres and linear varieties, the results might be generalized to non-flat objects.

Image Segmentation using Tissue-like P Systems with Multiple Auxiliary Cells
(Universidad de Sevilla, 2011) Reina Molina, Raúl; Carnero Iglesias, Javier; Díaz Pernil, Daniel; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Matemática Aplicada I
We present a solution of the segmentation problem using a distributed, non deterministic and parallel computational model known as tissue-like P systems. We present a new technique to segment images with respect to the algorithm appeared in [1], where we use multiple auxiliary cells and not only one.

On automation and certification of a homological method to process biomedical digital images
(Universidad de Sevilla, 2011) Heras, Jónathan; Mata, Gadea; Poza, María; Rubio, Julio
In this paper a methodology to extract and compute homological information from biomedical images is proposed; automating some processes, up to now, manually done. The main features of our approach are the usage of several programming languages (Java, Common Lisp and Haskell) and the application of formal methods (namely theorem provers) to verify the correctness of some of the automated process. As case study to test the suitability of our approach, we have applied it to measure the number of synapses of a neuron.
