Ponencia Factors Affecting Egyptian Small and Medium Sized Owners’ Intentions to and Adoption of E-business(Universidad de Sevilla, 2011) Abbas, Amal Abd Elhakam; Liñán, Francisco; Guzmán Cuevas, Joaquín J.The revolution in communications and information technology has played an important role in changing people's day to day life, this in fact has reflected on the way people performing business. Nowadays, modern business is being shifted from paper-based, and people-intensive systems toward electronic-based procedures using new communication tools. It is widely known that the adoption of new technology is not established from scratch, it is a product of cumulative factors and actions, that can be treated as a planned behaviour. In an analysis to investigate the intentions towards adoption of e-business as an entrepreneurial activity, this study relies on theoretical framework of Ajzen theory of planned behaviour. According to this theory human action is guided by three kinds of beliefs: beliefs about the future outcomes of the behaviour (behavioural beliefs), beliefs about the normative expectations of others and motivation to comply with these expectations (normative beliefs), and finally beliefs about the presence of factors that may facilitate or impede performance of the behaviour and the perceived power of these factors (control beliefs). Purpose- the purpose of this paper is to explore and explain the factors that determine the intention for adopting e-business among small and medium sized firms in Egypt. Design/Methodology/ Approach- A review of the literature on e-business, technology adoption and entrepreneurial orientation and behaviour. Develop an integrated model linking endogenous factors and exogenous factors that determine intention of adopting e-business. Originality/ Value: The paper is among the first studies to examine factors enabling/ hindering the adoption of e-business among small and medium sized firms in Egypt.Ponencia Profiling the factors affecting the entrepreneurial intention of the egyptian universities students(Universidad de Sevilla, 2011) Helmy, Hoda Alaa; Abbas, Amal Abd Elhakam; Kortam, Wael; Liñán, Francisco; Guzmán Cuevas, Joaquín J.Students intentions toward being an entrepreneur is considered as a good way for economic growth; this can be done by creating new businesses and new jobs which in turn will solve one major problem in Egypt, which is the unemployment problem. Therefore, it is important to make sure that university students are qualified and have the required and needed skills, characteristics and competencies. These qualifications make them being able to start and manage their own businesses in the future as different studies show the role of entrepreneurship education on increasing the entrepreneurial intention among university students. According to the Egyptian context, the paper aims to provide different propositions about the effect of entrepreneurship education on increasing the intentions of Egyptian universities students, the main psychological characteristics that an entrepreneur must possess, and testing the appropriateness of the theory of planned behavior (Ajzen 1991) in explaining the intention. The paper relies on exploratory methodology to reach testable research propositions through review of relevant literature, analysis of secondary data and qualitative research conducted with concerned parties.Ponencia The effect of entrepreneurial orientation on business performance: Evidence from small medium size enterprise(Universidad de Sevilla, 2011) Ashour, Haidy Nasser; Abbas, Amal Abd Elhakam; Allam, Samir; Liñán, Francisco; Guzmán Cuevas, Joaquín J.Entrepreneurship has long been considered a significant factor for socioeconomic growth and development because it provides millions of job opportunities, offers a variety of consumer goods and services, and generally increases national prosperity and competitiveness (Lee, 2000). Many scholars have focused on the individual level behavior analysis for the entrepreneurs and others as Wiklund (2005) focused on the firm level in behavior in explaining entrepreneurial performance on the basis that the behavior gives a meaning to entrepreneurial process. Other scholars remain in the area of studying entrepreneurship without entrepreneurs and it remains worthwhile for a certain period at the individual level (e.g. using a trait-based approach). Although, we believe that the dispositional characteristics are to be related to the firm level behavior as well as affect the firm performance outcomes for a complete understanding of the entrepreneurial process. To date, few studies have examined how dispositional traits, firm-level behaviors, and firm-level outcomes are related (Poon et al., 2006).
