Dataset language: Excel, MATLAB. 2. Abstract: Behavioral data and MATLAB scripts to analyze the data of an experiment in which we evaluated firstly whether goldfish demonstrate inferential responding in a standard transitive inference task commonly used in other species, and secondly, whether, like the hippocampus of mammals and birds, the hippocampal pallium of goldfish is involved in transitive responding. 3. Keywords: Transitive inference, Hippocampal pallium, episodic memory, cortical evolution 4. Date of data collection: 01-01-2023 to 01-04-2024 5. Publication Date: 20-12-2024 6. Grant information: Grant Agency: Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades, Gobernment of Spain Grant Number: PID2020-117359GB-100 7. Geographical location/s of data collection: Sevilla, Spain ACCESS INFORMATION ------------------------ 1. Creative Commons License of the dataset: CC BY-NC-ND 2. Dataset DOI: https://doi.org/10.12795/11441/166120 3. Related publication: 4. Link to related datasets: DOI/URL: https://hdl.handle.net/11441/166120 VERSIONING AND PROVENANCE --------------- 1. Last modification date: 19-12-2024. 2. Were data derived from another source?: No 3. Additional related data not included in this dataset: not applicable. METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION ----------------------- 1. Description of the methods used to collect and generate the data: For each trial the fish was released into a choice-chamber where it encountered two diagonally opposite exit doors, one of the exit-doors remained open, providing the only exit, and the other was blocked by means of a transparent glass barrier. On either side of each door, two identical visual panels displaying distinct colors and textures, were attached, serving as visual cues (A, B, C, D and E). For each trial one cue marked the correct door and the other cue marked the blocked door. For each trial we recorded the door chosen by the animal. 2. Data processing methods: Excel and MATLAB 3. Software or instruments needed to interpret the data: MATLAB 4. Information about instruments, calibration and standards:not applicable. 5. Environmental or experimental conditions:not applicable. 6. Quality-assurance procedures performed on the data:not applicable. FILE OVERVIEW ---------------------- 1. Explain the file naming conversion: not applicable 2. File list: File name: Group 1.zip Description: the compressed file contains eight files in csv format with the behavioral data of the training and testing phases of control animals. Note that the data are ordered by type of trial. File name: Group 2.zip Description: the compressed file contains seven files in csv format with the behavioral data of the training and testing phases of hippocampal pallium lesioned animals. Note that the data are ordered by type of trial. File name: Scripts.zip Description: the compressed file contains three MATLAB files (TIsimulations.m; W_VTmodel.m; W_VTsimulations.m) with scripts required for Wynne model with value transfer simulation 3. Relationship between files: not applicable 4. File format: Excel and MATLAB 5. If the dataset includes multiple files, specify the directory structure and relationships between the files: The data set includes three folders. There is a folder with the behavioral data of each of the two experimental groups (Sham-operated and hippocampal pallium lesioned). The third folder contains the scripts in MATLAB to calculate the obtained and predicted choice probability for both the trained and novel pairs using to the Wynne model with value transfer. SPECIFIC INFORMATION FOR TABULAR DATA ------------------------------------------- 1. Name file: csv files with the name datafishxx.csv 2. Number of rows and columns: five columns and variable number of rows 3. Variables list: Variable name: trial Description: Note that the numbers do not refer to the order of presentation, instead they are ordered by type of trial (AB, BC, CD and DE) during the training phases, and type of trial (AB, BC, CD, DE, BD and AE) during the testing phase. Variable name: testFlag Description: 0= training trials; 1= trials during the testing phase Variable name: pair Description: the pair of stimuli presented Variable name: choice Description: the stimulus chosen Variable name: correct Description: 0= incorrect: 1=correct 4. Codes or symbols for missing data: not applicable 5.
