Abstract: This dataset is the result of the R&D Project "Tourism SMEs, Global Value Chains, and Innovation" (INTURPYME), which was selected by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness for funding in the call of the State Plan corresponding to the year 2013. The data come from a survey addressed to entrepreneurs/managers of SMEs in the following activities: accommodation, food and beverage services, travel agencies, tour operators, reservation services, and related activities. The survey's sample frame was designed based on data from the Central Companies Directory (DIRCE) provided by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). The operational definition of SME used in this research is that of any company with at least one employee but employing fewer than 200 workers. The questionnaire's structure consists of five sections, with a total of 141 items: - Data on tourism SMEs and their participation in global value chains: 52 items. - Results of tourism SMEs: 6 items. - Nature, intensity, and typology of innovation in tourism SMEs: 51 items. - Organizational and management characteristics of tourism SMEs: 17 items. - Personal characteristics of the entrepreneur: 15 items. 3. The interviews were conducted by qualified interviewers with specific training for this study. The survey process commenced on January 13, 2016, and concluded on March 31, 2016.
