Revisiones sobre la figura, el retrato y el desnudo, a partir de los pintores de la escuela de Londres

Abstract

La Escuela de Londres es el nombre que se ha dado a un heterogéneo grupo de pintores contemporáneos vinculados con la capital británica, en cuyas obras confluyen dos características relevantes: la fidelidad a la pintura como medio indiscutible de creación y el protagonismo de la figura humana como sujeto dominante. A través de las obras de estos autores (Bacon, Freud, Auerbach, Kossoff, Andrews y Kitaj), se aportan elementos de reflexión sobre la vigencia del desnudo y el retrato en la pintura actual. Se establece también un recorrido por algunos cambios fundamentales que han sufrido estos géneros continuamente desacreditados durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX, y se plantean las constantes comunes que permanecen en las obras de otros artistas contemporáneos que han abordado estos temas. Este trabajo trata en definitiva de facilitar un itinerario somero por la actualidad de la representación pictórica del cuerpo. Retrato y desnudo como espacios de expresión y construcción de identidad, como vía de autodefinición del ser humano a través del arte.

«Re-Examining Form, Portraits and Nudes, With The Painters OF The London School». The London School is the name given to a heterogeneous group of contemporary painters linked to the British capital, in whose works two relevant characteristics come together: faithfulness to painting as an indisputable medium for creation and the prominence of the human form as a dominant subject. The works of these painters (Bacon, Freud, Auerbach, Kossoff, Andrews and Kitaj), are used to provide ideas for reflecting on the applicability of the nude and the portrait in contemporary painting. The text looks at some of the fundamental changes that these constantly disaccredited genres have suffered during the second half of the 20th century, and considers the consistent common elements that run through the work of other contemporary artists that have dealt with these themes. Ultimately, this work attempts to provide a summarised journey through contemporary pictorial representations of the body. The portrait and the nude as sites of identity expression and construction, as means of human self-definition through art.
