Intervenciones del siglo XX en la antigua Casa Profesa jesuita de Sevilla, segunda sede de la Universidad Hispalense

Abstract

La Universidad de Sevilla se trasladó en 1771 desde su sede fundacional a la Casa Profesa jesuita, construida a finales del siglo XVI. La Hispalense se mantuvo en esta segunda sede hasta mediados del siglo XX, estableciéndose definitivamente en la Fábrica de Tabacos. En su etapa universitaria la Casa Profesa recibió diversas intervenciones. En 1931 fue declarada monumento la iglesia de la Anunciación y en 1969 se declaró monumento el edificio civil. A pesar de ello fue destruido entre 1970 y 1972 con la obra de la Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes. Se analizan las razones de esta pérdida patrimonial.

The University of Seville was moved in 1771 from its founding headquarters towards the Jesuit Casa Profesa, built at the end of the 16th century. The Hispalense remained in this second site until mid-twentieth century, when it permanently settled at the Tobacco Factory. The building received several interventions in its academical phase. In 1931, the Church of the Annunciation was listed monument and so was the civil building in 1969. In spite of preservation, it was destroyed between 1970 and 1972 with the works of the School of Fine Arts. The reasons for this heritage loss are analysed in this article.
